Sworn to the Queen — Episode 1

What happens in episode 1 of Sworn to the Queen

Episode 1 of Sworn to the Queen is a court scene in which a young queen chooses the lowest-born guard to stand outside her door. It runs 58 seconds.

A sandstone throne hall with tall windows and red drapes. A grey-bearded knight in black plate glares down at a young guard in brown leather who kneels before the throne, while the court watches. The queen — platinum hair in a crown braid, a burgundy velvet gown embroidered in gold — chooses him, of all people, to stand outside her bedchamber.

The rule is simple and lethal: anyone who touches her dies. Episode 1 is a court scene with a fuse lit under it, ending on her smiling down at him far too close for that rule to be safe. The premise has the young queen daring him night after night while the old knight watches. Five episodes are listed, and the opener plays as slow-burn period romance: the most formal and costume-driven of our three royal series.
